I Scream, You Scream

It is currently rainy, dreary, and cold in the Big Apple, and I'm dreaming of summer. Specifically of those hot, sticky summer days when even your tiniest sun dress is overwhelming, when your hair is wet and your tan is deep and the only relief comes from finding a shady spot to sit, smile, and eat a dripping, sweating ice cream cone.

Happy Mother's Day to my beautiful, strong, hilarious, brilliant mama. You are the most incredible woman I know and I am thrilled to be able to say that you have made me who I am.

It Gets Better

I recently came across the It Gets Better Project, created by writer and advocate, Dan Savage. The idea of the project can be best summed up by this quote, from the web site: "Many LGBT youth can't picture what their lives might be live as openly gay adults. They can't imagine a future for themselves. So let's show them what our lives are like, let's show them what the future may hold in store for them."

I have watched close friends grow up and eventually come out, and the support and love that everyone needs is not always abundant within their small worlds. I hope that young people everywhere are turning to these story tellers for encouragement, friendship, and validation. Everyone deserves to be who they are and who they want to be, without apologies or explanation. This project takes the word inspirational to a new level.
